A President’s campaign, (Mali, 1197)
In 1997, I was commissioned by the French newspaper Libération to follow the presidential campaign of Alpha Oumar Konaré who was at the time President of the Republic of Mali. From Bamako to Kayes, passing through Tombouctou, Sikasso and Mopti, I travelled for fifteen days at a frantic pace, going from one organised meeting to the next, meeting people at random, immersing myself in huge crowds and participating in endless debates.
