These photographs were taken in 2000 in the state of Tamil Nadu in old people’s homes for the low-caste known as Untouchables. The photographer chose not to give any personal information about these people because his aim was not to document their lives and the centre in a journalistic manner. He simply wanted to share the strong impressions they impressed upon him: a great beauty and an undeniable force combined with the gentleness and pain of an age in suspension between life and death.
